Platinum jewellery can be cleaned with the conventional ways of cleaning gold jewellery. Soaking platinum in a mild solution of soap and warm water, gently scrubbing it with a soft-bristled brush and merely buffing it with a soft cloth is usually all that is required to maintain the metal's lustre.

Have your platinum jewellery polished every six months if you are interested in maintaining a high shine. Look for a qualified jeweller or an authorised platinum retailer for all adjustments, resizing, polishing and cleaning.

Platinum is very easy to care for. All precious metals scratch, and platinum is no exception. It is unique in that the metal is only displaced, not lost. However, despite its durability, platinum jewellery needs proper care.

If your platinum is set with diamonds or other precious stones, remove your platinum jewellery when undertaking heavy work. It is also advisable not to handle bleach or harsh chemicals when wearing your jewellery. Unlike gold, platinum is more durable, and does not get easily tarnished and discoloured by chlorine and other chemicals. Although they won’t hurt the platinum, chemicals may discolour diamonds or gemstones.

Avoid placing/storing your platinum jewellery with other pieces that can scratch it. Store pieces separately, in a jewellery box or chamois bag.
